Tour programme (written and offered by Merapi Tour) - Tour prices valid until December 31, 2009

Tour 1: Prambanan - Lava Tour of Merapi Mountain

Top-drawer matter in this trip of Java: visiting the Hindus Temple of Prambanan temple after breakfast. Seventeen kilometres east of Yogyakarta, King Balitung Maha Sambu built the Prambanan temple in the middle of the ninth century. Its parapets are adorned with bas-reliefs depicting the famous Ramayana story. This magnificent Shivaite temple derives it name from the village where it is located. Locally known as the Loro Jonggrang Temple, or the Temple of the "Slender Virgin", it is the biggest and most beautiful Hindu temple in Indonesia. The temple complex of Prambanan lies among green fields and villages. It has eight shrines, of which the three main ones are dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. The main temple of Shiva rises to a height of 130 feet and houses the magnificent statue of Shiva's consort, Durga.

We then drive towards the Merapi volcano for the lava tour. See the lava covers on the slopes of the mountain as a result of the eruption in 2006. One of the villages was partly covered. Hear how farmers survive on these dangerous slopes. After lunch we return to the hotel.

Tour 2: Borobudur Sun Rise and the Jogjakarta village

Travel one hour by air-conditioned coach to Borobudur start from hotel at 4 hr. early morning.

For more than 1000 years, the inspiring monument of Borobudur lay hidden under dense jungle vegetation. Borobudor was built by Buddhist Kings of the Sailendra Dynasty, and gradually covered by jungle until its discovery in 1814 by Sir Stamford Raffles. Over the next century, Borobudor was cleared and the process of restoring the 2 million pieces of andesite stone begun.

Upon arriving at the temple, our experienced guides will wander around the monument at your own pace. Borobudor has arguably the finest examples of Buddhist relief's in the world, with each of the ten terraces representing a huge book, which via the ascending levels symbolizes the path to Nirvana. At the top is the Great Stupa, which towers above the other 72 Stupas and statues. The view from the top is beautiful at Sunrise (around 5.30 AM) and you definitely remember it as one of the most special sights of any visit to South East Asia. After a coffee break in Manohara hotel we'll drive one-hour uphill  to the mountain town of Imogiri. See the cemetery of Sultan (assisted by a villager), then we go to Ciptaning Batik Museum, where you can see the process of batik making by hand , based upon classical inherited design. We then drive to Kasongan tourism village where nearly all the villagers make pottery the same way their ancestors did. Lunch in a local restaurant surrounded by pottery makers. Return to the hotel.
